Kiev, the capital of Ukraine, is a beautiful city with its centuries-old history and rich culture. Odessa is truly straight from literature. Its famous Potemkin Steps, immortalised in the classic 1925 silent film by Eisenstein, sweep down to the Black Sea and Ukraine’s largest commercial port. Behind them, a cosmopolitan cast of characters makes merry among pastel neo-classical buildings lining a geometrical grid of leafy streets. Immigrants from all over Europe were invited to make their fortune here when Odessa was founded in the late 18th century by Russia’s Catherine the Great.
