Itinerary – Norwegian Fjords Charm and Traditions

Day 1:  Arrival in Oslo, Norway

Welcome to the Kingdom of Norway – the country with the most beautiful fjords on Earth!

Upon arrival, make your own way to the tour hotel.
Today is at leisure – walk along the streets and explore the city of the royal family, and the main Karl Johan’s street, with many shops, bars and cafes.
17.00 hrs Meet your Tour Leader and fellow guests at the reception of our hotel for an informative meeting about your tour.

Day 2:  Oslo – Fläm – Sognefjord – Voss

After breakfast at the hotel, you will start on your journey towards the fjords of Norway.

Driving through the Norwegian countryside, you will pass Lake Tyrifjord with its several branches; this lake is one of the largest lakes in Norway and plays an important role for resting migratory birds of many species. Continue driving through magnificent Hallingal Valley.

Arrive in the picturesque village of Fläm after an early lunch (not included). You will have a short break in the city before boarding the famous Flåmsbana towards Myrdal. Myrdal station is a mountain railway station and junction, located about 13km from the village of Fläm. Flåmsbana is one of the steepest rail lines in the world and the train journey runs through the charming scenery and nature, past the Rallar road, steep mountains, breath-taking waterfalls, and through 20 tunnels. It offers so many viewpoints that many feel like travelling between the mountain and the fjord multiple times.  The journey continues by train to Voss.

Schedule permitting, you will be offered the opportunity to join an optional cruise (not included) Flåm-Gudvangen, sailing through the idyllic Sognefjord, which is included on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The coach will be waiting for you at the end of the cruise in Gudvangen to continue to journey to Voss.

Day 3:  Voss – Bergen

After breakfast at the hotel, depart for Bergen – a world heritage city.  Bergen is the gateway to the Norwegian Fjords. As a UNESCO World Heritage City and a European City of Culture, the Bergen region has the ideal combination of nature, culture and exciting urban life all year round.

Meet your local guide upon arrival and enjoy a 2 hour sightseeing tour in Bergen, including the Hanseatic Bryggen, the Church of Mary, the Hakon Fortress and the famous Fish Market.
You can also visit the Fløibanen Funicular on an optional excursion (not included).

After your tour, return to your hotel.

Day 4:  Bergen – Sognefjord – Briksdall Glacier – Loen

Briksdal Glacier

Enjoy a buffet breakfast at the hotel before boarding your coach for the next leg of the trip. You will cross the famous Sognefjord from Oppedal to Lavik. Sognefjord is Norway’s longest and deepest fjord, which stretches 204 kilometres inland from the coast.

Continue towards the famous Briksdaal Glacier. Guests from all over the world come to visit this glacier arm, set attractively between roaring waterfalls and high peaks. Briksdalsbreen is an arm of the great Jostedalsbreen Glacier and located inside the Jostedalsbreen National Park. The Glacier plunges from 1200 metres into the beautiful Briksdalen Valley, which you can see on foot or ride one of the “Trollcars” to the top (not included – see Optional excursion package).  Dinner is included this evening.

Day 5:  Loen – Geirganger Fjord – Troll’s Road – Molde

After breakfast at the hotel, depart to Geiranger, where you will board a sightseeing cruise on the Geirganger fjord, one of Norway’s most narrow and impressive fjords, dominated by a huge rock face with stunning waterfalls, including the two most famous: “The Seven Sisters” and the “Veil of the Bride”.

After the cruise you will continue driving north and pass by the famous Eagle road, the steepest stretch of road up the mountain side from Geiranger towards Eidsdal on road no. 63. The road swings through 11 hairpin bends up from the Geirangerfjord to the highest point on the stretch, 620 metres above sea level, at Korsmyra. The road was an attraction from the very first day and was called Eagle Road because at its highest point it passed through terrain that had traditionally been the domain of a large number of eagles. The viewpoint has been recently upgraded and was officially opened on 21st June 2006 with a simple ceremony as part of the project “Nasjonal Turistveg” (National Tourist Roads).

Afterwards, a short ferry crossing from Eidsdal to Linge, before reaching the Troll’s Road, an exciting series of 11 hairpin bends that descend the mountain. A true work of art with astonishing views.  We then take another short ferry crossing from Vestnes before arriving in Molde.

Day 6:  Molde – Atlantic Road – Oppdal

Enjoy a buffet breakfast at the hotel before boarding your coach on the beautiful Atlantic Road. 36km long, it goes from island to island by bridges and dykes, at the edge of the ocean. This true masterpiece of civil engineering was voted the “Work of Art of the Century” by the Norwegians and ranked one of the best road routes in the world by The Guardian.

Continue south to Oppdal, where you will check in to your hotel.

Day 7:  Otta Region – Oslo

Breakfast at the hotel. Today we return to Oslo. Short stop in Lillehammer and some free time to explore the Olympic city. Late afternoon arrival in Hamar.

Continue along the shore of Lake Mjøsa, the largest lake in Norway. Afternoon arrival in Oslo.
Meet your local guide and discover the city during a 3 hour sightseeing tour, including a visit to Frogner Park, with the sculptural Vigeland Park. You will also see the magnificent Royal Palace, City Hall and Akershus Fortress.

Day 8:  Oslo – End of tour

After buffet breakfast at the hotel, enjoy some last minute shopping before checking out by 12:00 hrs.
