Itinerary – Rovaniemi Tour – Winter Experience 2024

Day 1 – Arrival to Rovaniemi

Welcome to Finland – the land of a thousand lakes.

Arrive in Rovaniemi, the capital of Finnish Lapland. Lapland is as close as reality gets to those who dream of a winter wonderland. Contrasts are a key factor in the allure of Lapland where 24-hour sunlight in the summer replaces the dark days of winter. The hustle and bustle of towns and ski resorts is just minutes away from the peace and quiet of the wilderness.

Make your own way to the hotel and check in. The rest of the evening is at leisure.

Day 2 – Rovaniemi – Husky Safari with Santa Claus Village and Aurora Evening

After breakfast in the hotel, start the day by immediately immersing yourself into the magic of Lapland! First stop today is the Santa Claus Village, located on the Arctic Circle.
Enjoy Lapland’s beautiful nature riding in a dog sled! You can relax and let your senses rest in the calming scenery and silent surroundings, while the guide is driving the husky team. After the safari you can warm up by an open fire in our yard and also spend time in the park meeting the other dogs. Duration of driving approx. 20 min.
Here, you can also visit the Santa’s post office to send a letter to yourself or a loved one, with the official stamp of Santa. Wander around the various souvenir shops and enjoy the magic atmosphere in the village.

Aurora Evening – get ready for another included activity!
Did you know that in Finland we call the Northern Lights ‘the Fire of the Fox’? Enjoy the fresh winter air and a chance to see the Northern Lights flicker in the sky. We take you by car to the nearby wilderness where we will have the best view on the sky. During the evening you will learn about arctic nature and enjoy stories about the culture and history of the local people. You will have a chance to try snowshoes around the fireplace. We will also have a break to enjoy some hot beverages and to grill some marshmallow on the campfire. At the end of our excursion we return to the city by bus – hopefully with rested and relaxed minds. Even if we can’t guarantee the Northern Lights, this programme is excellent for people who wish to enjoy the great outdoor polar night.

Day 3 – Rovaniemi – Free Day for Optional Activities

After breakfast at the hotel, you have a free day to enjoy Rovaniemi at leisure or to enjoy some optional excursions (not included)!  Why not to discover the magnificent Arktikum museum and learn about the Sami, original people of Lapland.  Another option is to enjoy one of the many activities offered in the area, such as snowshoe walking or ice-fishing experience, you could go northern lights hunting again in the evening.  You can go shopping in town or take a walk along the banks of the Ounasjoki River, to enjoy the winter landscapes of Lapland.
Do not hesitate to ask your tour escort for advice, they are there to make sure you enjoy Lapland to the fullest.

Day 4 – Quick Spin Snowmobile Safari

After breakfast, be prepared to continue the day with some adrenaline and speed, taking part in an exciting snowmobile safari.  This snowmobile adventure offers a fantastic opportunity to learn how to master the art of driving a snowmobile. During the safari, we stop for a break to enjoy hot drinks and the silence of the wilderness..

Day 5 – End of Tour

After breakfast, the morning is at leisure before you check out.
Make your own way to the airport for your onward flight. (Transfer can be arranged at additional cost)

Rovaniemi Tour – Winter Experience Optionals 2024

REINDEER SAFARI 3 hrs

Join us on our favourite trip to an authentic reindeer safari! Sit comfortably in a sleigh and lay back, take photos of the nature around you and listen to the sounds of the reindeer caravan. The Reindeer herder will prepare coffee with a cinnamon bun, and he will share with you his life story with the reindeer around the campfire.

Duration: 3 hours
Minimum: 2 persons, Maximum: 15 persons.

Included: Winter clothing, transfers, visit to reindeer farm, 1-hour reindeer safari, hot drinks with a bun, guiding in English

AURORA BOREALIS ICE-FLOATING 3 hrs

Dip yourself into frozen lake under the Auroras and let your mind rest, it sounds bizarre doesn’t it! Tonight this is possible when we go to a private secret venue where you can try the water while wearing a high quality rescue suit that covers your whole body and keeps you dry. As you have your own clothing under the suit you will not get cold even in the open 0-degree water. The circumstances are truly arctic! If the weather is clear, we can see beautiful stars and if you are lucky, you may even get to marvel the magnificent Northern Lights.

Departure: Daily (19:30 or 20.00)
Duration: 3 hours
Minimum: 2 persons, Maximum: 15 persons

Notice: Minimum height for ice-floating tour is 120 cm

ICE FISHING 2-3 hrs

Join our professional ice fishing guide to the frozen wilderness lake in the middle of the forest. Here you can learn how to lure the fish from under the ice with special ice fishing gear. On this trip you can really enjoy the silence and tranquillity of the winter nature. While ice fishing, our guide will serve us hot drinks from thermos.

Departs: Tuesday (Day 3 or 4) 10:00 or 14.30
Duration: 2 – 3 hours
Minimum: 2 persons, Maximum: 15 persons.

Included: Winter clothing, transfers, ice fishing equipment and instructions, hot drinks from thermos, guiding in English

SNOWSHOE FUN 2 hrs

Having a walk with snowshoes is a fun way to play in the snow and explore the forest, all you need is positive energy! Our guide will take you to winter wonderland – landscapes where we find a perfect place to enjoy the peace and quiet, take photos and have fun in the snow!

Departure: Tuesday (Day 4) 11:00
Duration: 2 hours
Minimum: 2 persons, Maximum: 15 persons.

Included: Winter clothing, transfers, hot chocolate with marshmallows, guiding in English

Notice: Not suitable for children under 12 years old.

DAY TRIP TO RANUA WILDLIFE PARK with LUNCH 5 hrs

Located one hour away from Rovaniemi, the Ranua Wildlife Park is the northernmost wildlife park in the world. It consists of approximately 50 wild animal species and 200 individuals.
In the park, it is possible to see polar bears, brown bears, wild reindeer, wolves, wolverines, lynxes, predatory birds, otters, wild boars and so many others!

Duration: 5 hours
Minimum: 2 persons, Maximum: 45 persons.

Included: Transfers, entrance tickets, outdoor guide in English, buffet lunch in the restaurant.

This tour is not recommended for travellers with limited mobility, a certain amount of walking is involved (2.5 km)
